Project Summary:

The Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at Exeter, founded in 1999 to consolidate existing strengths in the study of the Middle East and Islam, is the leading centre of excellence for research in Middle East, Arab and Islamic Studies in the United Kingdom. The results of REF2014 testify to quality of the IAIS’s research and confirm its position as the best department in the country.

The Centre for Gulf Studies is the oldest research centre in the United Kingdom, perhaps in Europe dedicated to the study of this strategically vital region, drawing upon the expertise of a number of researchers in the humanities and the social sciences.

The Centre is seeking to recruit one excellent doctoral student whose area(s) of specialisation fit(s) and complement(s) the research interests of our academics.
